Yoga nidra is both a practice and a highly elevated state. The practice is meant to lead one to a state that is close to sleep, but with a trace of awareness; a state in which one can abide in pure consciousness. While it might seem that yoga nidra is about rest and relaxation, it is ultimately about awakening and transcendence. Despite its rising popularity, yoga nidra remains mysterious to students and teachers alike. This immersion aims to shed light on yoga nidra, deepen the experience of the practice, and give teachers the tools and confidence to offer the gift of yoga nidra to their students. This immersion will begin with a close examination of the state of yoga nidra. Through the study of traditional scripture, the yogic model of the mind, and modern neuroscience, students will gain a deep understanding of the states of consciousness and how that relates to yoga nidra. With that firm foundation in place, we will then dive into the practice of yoga nidra. We will implement subtle body teachings and yoga therapy to know the relationship between the spine and savasana. And we will discover the essentials for an effective yoga nidra practice so that by the end of the program, students will create their own yoga nidra script and learn how to lead others through the practice.
